Complex Mealtime & Bowel Care Management Success Story
One of our participants has complex mealtime, swallowing, and bowel care needs. To ensure their safety and wellbeing, their speech pathologist developed a comprehensive Mealtime Management Plan and Bowel Care Management Plan tailored specifically to their requirements. These plans outline detailed strategies for safe food preparation, positioning, support during meals, and bowel care routines, addressing their unique risks and preferences.
Recognizing the importance of consistent and correct implementation, the speech pathologist created a series of custom video training modules for INREACH Supports staff. These videos demonstrate the correct techniques for food texture modification, safe feeding practices, bowel care procedures, and emergency response protocols. All support staff working with this participant are required to complete this training and demonstrate competency before providing assistance.
Through this collaborative approach, the support team is empowered to confidently and safely implement care plans every day. All our high intensity support workers have at minimum a Certificate III in Individual Support or equivalent, plus specialized training in the specific high intensity supports they provide. Many also have additional qualifications in nursing, allied health assistance, or other relevant fields.
